U.S. Ambassador to Japan Rahm Emanuel will represent the United States of America at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Ceremony on August 6 and the Nagasaki Peace Memorial Ceremony on August 9.
“I am honored to have the opportunity to attend the Hiroshima and Nagasaki Peace Memorial Ceremonies,” stated Ambassador Emanuel. “My visit to Hiroshima in March 2022 with Prime Minister Kishida was deeply moving, and I said then that my responsibilities as an Ambassador and as a citizen would not be complete until I also visited Nagasaki. It is incumbent upon every one of us to learn from history and to pay respect to all those who lost their lives in World War II. I am proud to continue the tradition established by my predecessors of representing the United States of America at these important memorial ceremonies, and I look forward to working with Japan to advance our shared ideal of peace in this region and around the world.”
