Ambassador Hagerty Travels Around Japan

Ambassador William Hagerty visited Himeji, Takamatsu, Naoshima and Nagasaki March 25-28 and met with local government leaders. The Ambassador and his family toured Himeji castle and traveled to the island of Naoshima to visit museums and view art exhibits emphasizing the coexistence of nature, art, and architecture.

The Ambassador also visited Takamatsu’s Isamu Noguchi Garden Museum, devoted to the Japanese-American artist who spent his life nurturing cultural ties between the U.S. and Japan. In addition, Ambassador Hagerty enjoyed Yanagawa punting and a tour of Gunkanjima, which is listed as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site from the period of Japan’s Meiji Industrial Revolution.
