U.S. Ambassador to Japan Rahm Emanuel welcomes Japan’s announcement of support for our European partners by providing liquefied natural gas (LNG) in the face of Russian supply threats. The United States greatly appreciates Japan’s substantial commitment to ensure our European friends can meet their energy needs. The use of energy supplies as a weapon or geopolitical lever is unacceptable.
Despite the challenges of meeting its own energy needs and ensuring its own energy security during the winter season, Japan is standing resolute with the United States and our European partners, and against the exercise of raw power.
Ambassador Emanuel commented, “Japan’s assistance to Europe is an example of how President Biden and Prime Minister Kishida are working closely together with like-minded partners to deter Russian aggression against Ukraine, and uphold our shared values. These principles will always prevail over intimidation.”
