COVID-19 Restrictions on Accessing Consular Section:
Applicants entering or returning to Japan from overseas are not eligible to visit the Embassy or Consulates until the quarantine period set by the Japanese government is completed. Additionally, please postpone your appointment if you are sick and/or displaying COVID-like symptoms such as coughing, fever, shortness of breath, etc. or have been exposed to individuals known to have tested positive for COVID-19.
When an appointment is required, the U.S. Embassy and Consulates strongly encourage our customers to make appointments online for the location nearest them. Please note that some applicants (age 16 and up) do not need to make an appointment to come to the Embassy or Consulate since they may qualify to renew their passports by mail. Mail-in renewal is available for most adult passports (click here to see if you qualify).
Applicants should avoid traveling throughout Japan solely for the purpose of obtaining a Consular Report of Birth Abroad, passport, or notarial service appointment. If the Consulate nearest you does not have appointments available online and you have an urgent need for service, please contact us at the email address listed here.
Please note:
Appointments in Tokyo, Sapporo, Osaka/Kobe, Fukuoka, and Naha:
Online appointments are now available for Tokyo, Sapporo, Osaka/Kobe, Fukuoka, and Naha. If the appointments are fully booked, please check our website at the beginning of each month for the following month’s appointments. When an appointment is required, please make it at the nearest location to avoid unnecessary travel.
