Japanese authorities have informed the U.S. Embassy that on Friday, December 15th, from 1500 hours to 1700 hours, approximately 300 demonstrators plan to protest the United States’ recent decision to recognize Jerusalem as the Israeli capital. The protest is expected to be held approximately 200 meters north of the Embassy’s main gate (near Sotobori-Dori). Although the demonstration is anticipated to be peaceful, those in the area can expect to see significant police reinforcements.
We remind U.S. citizens that even demonstrations intended to be peaceful are unpredictable and can become violent. You should avoid the areas around the demonstration on December 15 if possible, and exercise caution if you are within the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests, or demonstrations.
As always, you are encouraged to review your personal security plans; remain aware of your surroundings, including local events; and monitor local news for updates. Maintain a high-level of vigilance, take appropriate steps to enhance your personal security and follow instructions of local authorities. Avoid areas of demonstrations, and exercise caution if in the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests, or demonstrations.
