Statement by Ambassador Hagerty on His Arrival in Japan

AMBASSADOR HAGERTY: Hajimemashite. Thank you for being here with us today. I am thrilled to be here and bring you greetings from President Trump. We both firmly believe in the importance of Japan to the United States, and I am honored to represent my country as the U.S. Ambassador to Japan.

As many of you know, I’ve lived in Japan before. It’s been my great honor to strengthen the ties between Japan and my home state of Tennessee, as well as our nation.

The unshakable bonds, “Kizuna,” between the U.S. and Japan are the cornerstone of peace, prosperity, and freedom in the Asia-Pacific region. The United States is committed to our deep and strong alliance with Japan.

My wife Chrissy and I, my sons William and Stephen, and my daughters Tara and Christine all look forward to making Japan our home, and to getting to know our friends in Japan even better to help further strengthen our wonderful bonds and alliance between our two countries.

Arigato Gozaimasu!
