U.S. and Japan
Statement by Ambassador Rahm Emanuel on the House of Councillors Passing the Budget
I applaud the administration of Prime Minister Kishida and the House of Councillors for concluding the National Diet’s final passage of the FY23 budget. This budget is not only a signal of Japan’s goals and priorities; it is a reflection of Japan’s growing importance on the international stage – in diplomacy, development, and now deterrence.
The decisions made by Japan’s leaders and lawmakers today will set the course for a more peaceful, more prosperous future for the citizens of Japan and for the people of the Indo-Pacific region. I look forward to working with the Prime Minister and his team to continue to advance the U.S.-Japan Alliance and the incredibly close ties between our two countries.
