IndoPacific Region
Statement by U.S. Ambassador to Japan Rahm Emanuel Welcoming Agreement by Japan and the Republic of Korea
March 6, 2023

I commend Prime Minister Kishida and President Yoon for their boldness and bravery in reaching a mutually acceptable agreement to resolve the wartime labor dispute. While acknowledging the pain of events from the 20th century, together, they are seizing the opportunities of the 21st century for their respective nations.

The United States has no stronger allies in the Indo-Pacific than Japan and the Republic of Korea. United by shared values, shared interests, and shared goals, together we are now even better postured to safeguard the peace, prosperity, and promise of the Indo-Pacific.
