Statement by Ambassador Hagerty on U.S. Contribution to Relief Efforts in Western Japan

July 13, 2018

In my capacity as the Ambassador of the United States of America to Japan and in coordination with the U.S. Agency for International Development, I am authorizing International Disaster Assistance funds of USD100,000 be released to Japan to aid in humanitarian assistance and disaster relief activities for the people and communities of Western Japan affected by recent torrential rains and flooding.

The government and people of the United States express our deepest sympathies and condolences to the families of all who tragically lost their lives in this disaster, and send our thoughts and prayers to all those injured and affected by the floods and landslides. It is our sincere hope that these funds will contribute to the expeditious recovery of your loved ones and the restoration of your communities. The United States will always stand with Japan in your time of need, as you have stood with us in ours.
