Security Message for U.S. Citizens: Tropical Cyclone Talim (No. 18) Update

September 15, 2017

The U.S. Embassy in Tokyo cautions U.S. citizens that Typhoon Talim (Typhoon Number 18) has shifted direction to the northeast and is expected to make landfall over southern Kyushu sometime overnight from September 16 to early September 17, 2017, and then continue over Kyushu, western Honshu and Hokkaido over the following days with decreasing intensity.  Expect the possibility of extremely high winds, dangerous storm tides, heavy rainfall, and possible flooding to occur.  Tokyo could see at least tropical storm force winds Sunday evening through early Monday.

The Japan Meteorological Service’s Typhoon tracking information may be found in English at this webpage:  http://www.jma.go.jp/en/typh/.  Information about Tropical Cyclone Talim (No. 18) is also available from the Joint Typhoon Warning Center at https://metoc.ndbc.noaa.gov/jtwc.

Note that the current Tropical Cyclone Condition of Readiness (TCCOR) for U.S. military installations on Okinawa may be found here: https://shogunweather.com/tccor/.

Kadena Airbase also has tropical cyclone forecast information at https://shogunweather.com/tropicalcycloneforecast/.
