Family-Based Immigration
After the Visa Issuance

If your visa is approved at the interview, your passport with a visa will generally be returned by mail within seven to ten days from the interview.

Some of applicants will also receive a sealed packet containing documents. When you receive a packet,do not open the sealed packet.  Instead, present it to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer at the port-of-entry (often an airport) upon your arrival in the United States.  If your visa is annotated “IV Docs in CCD”, it means that your supporting documents are electronic, and you will only receive your passport from us.

You must pay the USCIS Immigrant Fee to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) after you receive your immigrant visa and before you travel to the United States. Only children who enter the United States under the Orphan or Hague adoption programs, Iraqi and Afghan special immigrants, returning residents (SB-1s), and those issued K visas are exempt from this fee. Select USCIS Immigrant Fee on the USCIS website for more information.
