Weather Alert – U.S. Consulate General Naha
4 MINUTE READ
August 31, 2020

Location: Okinawa Prefecture

Typhoon Maysak is expected to bring extremely high winds, dangerous storm tides, heavy rainfall, and possible flooding to areas of Okinawa Prefecture beginning early Tuesday, September 1, 2020.

If you live in or are traveling to storm-prone areas, prepare by organizing a kit in a waterproof container that includes a supply of bottled water, non-perishable food items, medications, and vital documents. Emergency shelters often provide only very basic resources and may have limited medical and food supplies. U.S. citizens throughout Japan should pay careful attention to trusted local media and follow the instructions of local authorities in preparing for these storms.

If moving to a shelter, please ensure that you continue to follow instructions regarding social distancing and other mitigation efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

All U.S. citizens living in or traveling to the area should monitor local weather reports, follow directions from local officials and take other appropriate actions as needed.

The Japan Meteorological Service’s typhoon tracking information may be found in English at this webpage. Information is also available from the Joint Typhoon Warning Center online here.
